Students and teachers of Swami Vivekanand College in Malolo, outside Nadi Town, witnessed the commissioning of its water reservoir yesterday.
College manager Swami Tadananda said the college had earlier requested the Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation to assist in funding the project.
“The funding included the digging of a borehole, installation of three 10,000 litre water tanks and pump and pipe system at a cost of $44, 000,” he said.
Mr Tadananda said the college over the years had experienced difficulties in getting regular supply of clean and safe water.
He said on several occasions the school was forced to close for days and sometimes for a whole week because of lack of water.
He said it affected education.
Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation manager Joel Sahai said the new facility was commissioned by Mr Tomasi Vakatora, Chief Executive Officer of Amalgamated Telecom Holdings and deputy Chairman of the Vodafone Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Fiji Foundation.
“The other two organisations include Fiji Water Foundation and Westpac Banking Corporation.
Mr Sahai said offshore funding came from the Rotary Foundation in the United States of America.
