20/07/2010- $30k Boost for Cure Kids
FIJI Water has continued its support towards the Accor Extreme Challenge to Cure Kids with a donation of $30,000 yesterday.
Natural Waters of Viti Limited managing director Paul Davies said working with Accor and Cure Kids Fiji was a "perfect partnership" for his company.
"Any positive change we can make by investing in our community is returned to us ten-fold through the positive results we see in the development and better health of the Fijian people - it's a fun and extremely rewarding way to get involved in the community," Mr Davies said.
Cure Kids Fiji, together with partners Accor Resorts and Hotels in Fiji and corporate sponsors, have, to date, raised over $600,000 at events held in 2006 and 2008.
The money was used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for the neo-natal and Paediatric Intensive Care Units at Lautoka Hospital and basic medical items for the childrens ward at the Nadi Hospital.
Funds have also been used to aid annual visits by paediatric kidney specialists and INTERPLAST teams who carry out cleft palate and lip surgeries.
Over $120,000 was used to fund a rheumatic heart disease control and prevention programme to detect and treat children with the disease.
Three ventilators being used at Suva's Colonial War Memorial Hospital were also bought through these funds.
In addition to this, a $50,000 capital fund has been established with the interest from this used to ensure the maintenance and upkeep of all existing equipment.
"The Accor Extreme Challenge to Cure Kids this year is a four-day event beginning on August 28 with competition in swimming, kayaking and running capped off with a complete makeover of the Nadi Hospital with the help of our partners for the event - Rosie Holidays and Mercure Nadi," said Vicki Lee, chief executive officer of Cure Kids Fiji Islands.
