13/4/10 - Fiji Water improves morale at school
A library building project funded by the Fiji Water Foundation and constructed by the people of Taviya in Ovalau, was officially opened.
The school now has a large, light-filled room with plenty of space for students to sit, read, and study.
Head teacher Kevueli Naimawi said it was the school’s first major development project, and had greatly improved the morale of teachers and the school community.
“Fiji Water Foundation’s donation has been a timely one, since the region will likely to receive power within a year’s time. The new library will be suitable to house computers and a photocopier for the school,” said Mr Naimawi.
Chief guest, Fiji Water Foundation manager, Molly Powers, praised the school committee for their dedication in improving the school.
Ms Powers told the students that they should make note of this gift from their elders and consider how they too will someday give back to their community.
Two boxes of children’s books donated by the Rotary Club of Suva East were also presented to the school.
Following the ceremony, the students performed items for their honoured guests and local chiefs.
Fiji Water Foundation is a charitable foundation of the Fiji Water company which was founded in 2007 and is dedicated to funding projects in the priority areas of health care, water and education throughout Fiji.
